Something’s Gotta Give

I went to see Something’s Gotta Give tonight, which was something of a mixed bag. All in all, I think it was pretty good: it definitely had its great moments, both in terms of writing and acting, though it seemed to have trouble deciding whether it wanted to be a poignant, true-to-life film or a romantic comedy. The cast is great — it’s pretty much why I wanted to see the film in the first place — and it’s a great reminder of how awesome Diane Keaton and Jack Nicholson are. It was a tad bit frightening when Jack Nicholson’s character sported a beard near the end of the movie, though, because he looked almost exactly like my dad with dark hair. Their performances were uninhibited, and it really made the film.
In terms of romantic films, I still have a hankering to see Love Actually, though it’s utterly girly of me. Tonight I saw the trailer for Big Fish, which is Tim Burton’s latest, and I have to say I’m utterly intrigued.
CNN just showed that famous clip of George Bush saying “This agression will not stand…”, which is now forever associated in my mind with the opening shots of The Big Lebowski, one of my all-time favorite films. Yeah, it’s awesome. I wrote a paper on it my senior year.
And now, the greatest film of all: The Big Sleep. By which I mean it’s a great film (not to mention the inspiration for Lebowski), but by which I also mean I’m going to sleep.
