Kennedy shmennedy.

An interesting perspective in the Globe last week about why the Rose Kennedy Greenway won’t work [mirrored here] by a local architect. I’m not sure whether or not I agree with him, but he makes some good points, and it’s worth reading if you’re interested in city planning.

  1. I think where the architect fails is by his assumptions of what this community would be. He draws us into this idea of a community, probably bringing about thoughts of little Italy or the Southie or Inman Square or some place that has something of a community. Who would actually live in these buildings? People of the same caliber as the Back Bay, probably; the buildings would probably be new and soulless, so they wouldn’t even have the charm of the Brownstones. If they could make this place a vibrant community, I would think it would be a good idea, but I also don’t see that happening.
