  1. The Times had a fascinating article the other day
    about the black market for ISBNs in China. The
    Chinese government, which controls the allocation
    of their numbers, issues ISBNs only to state-owned
    printers. Even though they’re outlawed, apparently
    there are number of independent presses — which have
    to buy their legitimacy on the black market!
