Brandy old fashioned, sweet.

Every so often, the Travel section of the New York Times really delivers. This Sunday, I opened it up to discover this marvelous full-pager on Wisconsin Supper Clubs.

It’s nice to see places one knows: I immediately spotted the photos of the Tornado Room and its bar and cocktail lounge (oh! those booths, I miss ’em); and a nice nod to the Old Fashioned and its Lazy Susans (smoked fish!). Indeed, the photos say it all: warmth, food, cocktails, chill air outdoors, good fellowship within, and brandy old fashioneds all around. In fact, Paul and I ran to the store later in the day to pick up some ginger ale so that we could indulge in the state drink, clinking our glasses and cheersing our adopted home.

We miss you, Wisconsin! Someone go eat some cheese curds for me.
