MITFCU: true to its name!

At 3:15 today, I decided to head to the bank (sorry — the credit union) to transfer some funds over so I could pay rent. I walked all the way over to the MIT Federal Credit Union’s new location in Tech Square only to discover that, amid countless signs proclaiming “Come on in — We’re open!”, the doors were locked and the desks were empty.
I looked more closely at the signs inviting me inside and discovered that these were only ads for free checking and the like: it was just some stock image, presumably intended to indicate freedom, convenience, and general openness. On the doors, I noticed that the MITFCU’s hours are M-F 8 am – 3 pm. Three pm? Has this always been the case, or is it related to the move to Tech Square?
I wandered around, expecting that where there’s a bank (or, rather, credit union) there’s an ATM nearby, but to my utter frustration the new FCU location seems to be ATM-less.
I repeatedly muttered the expletive which the acronym for “Federal Credit Union” resembles, changed the music on my iPod to something more percussive, and stormed back to campus, where I executed all my transactions at the Lobby 10 ATM.

  1. Those are the hours I remember. But maybe it was 3:30. Or maybe that is my bank now? I frequently remember a mad dash to the bank at some inconvenient afternoon hour.

  2. It occurs to me that, after opening my account, I was only physically in the FCU once or twice in total, so it’s possible their hours have always been this frustratingly morning-shifted.
Of course, it makes no difference to the story. Those “Come in — we’re open!” signs are totally bloody obnoxious and misleading.
Speaking of financial frustrations, it turns out that the Cashier’s Office, home of the (ten thousand) dollar bill on the Infinite, is moving to NE49, which is in Tech Square, right next to the FCU’s new location, and in the same building as “Fitcorp,” the horrifically-named Tech Square gym. I mean, were they trying to make their name sound like a parody?
One last thing: speaking of parody-sounding company names, while at the Career Fair last week I noticed a booth for a company called “Intech.” Are you serious? Intech?! The question is: have they ever seen Office Space? Are they the company being parodied in the movie? Are they oblivious? Or are they trying to be funny?
